2018 Crowdfunding Campaign Success!

smiling-facesOur 2018  crowdfunding campaign on FAITHIFY, the UU crowdfunding website, ended successfully on May 9. With more than $4,300 raised, we met and exceeded our goal!

We raised funds to support the three projects described below. Villagers will begin working on these community initiatives this spring.

Varosfalva_playgroundA safe play space for children in Városfalva

Villagers in this Unitarian village want their children to grow up in a safe and healthy environment. They have organized a “kaláka” to create a playground, which they feel is vital to a child’s development. The new playground will serve 30 children, aged 3-13, as well as parents and the elderly who will all benefit from this communal gathering space.

Raising the walls on a new church hall wing in Torockoszentgyorgy

This Unitarian village highly values its spiritual heritage. The center of Szentgyorgy life is the church hall, which is in urgent need of renovation and expansion. With funding, volunteers will construct a new wing with a larger kitchen and storage area, meeting rooms for youth groups, the women’s association, and children’s workshops, and a larger space for communal celebrations.

Renovating the community hall in Brassó

BrassoThe Family Support Center in Brassó is a central hub for neighboring villages, a place to celebrate culture and pass on traditions. After 35 years of use, the Center’s main hall desperately needs renovation. The floor is sloping dangerously; walls need re-plastering; and tables and chairs have deteriorated. The greater community will work together to restore this room, which serves a vital common purpose.
